A dragon that walks on all fours like Smaug probably would have seemed harder to relate to, and, from the audience's perspective, on a subconscious, psychological level, harder for Spike to interact with on an equal level. Ember is much more humanoid, which I'm guessing is a move to make her more relatable (dammit, spellcheck, stop catching "relatable"! That's a word! Don't tell me it's not!) It was probably a good move. The adults in the dragon migration, and the guy from Dragonshy, all look like your basic Smaug/Alduin/Parthurnaax build, and then Torch, Ember, and the teenagers are vastly different. It's kind of curious why there is such a variance of dragon types in FIM. Within a week of this episode airing, Princess Ember became one of the. She'll probably just mature a bit in various features, like your drawing, but stay more or less the same. Summoned to the Dragon Lands, Spike must compete for the title of Dragon Lord.

But if I were to speculate, I'd say she'll probably stay pretty small, and look similar when she's fully grown. Spike will probably stay his baby size forever, and Ember will stay as she is. That's just how cartoons are usually done. By rights, they should be the size of the mane six by now. For instance, the CMC are the same apparent age now as when the show started, but obviously, at least several years have passed. I doubt we will ever see any change in Ember on the show, because in most animated shows, including FIM, there's never a true passage of time, meaning that we don't see characters age. Did you draw this? Just.wasn't sure since.not Octavia's Hall.
