Therefore you will need to be able to demonstrate effective leadership, communication skills and the ability to work in partnership with other agencies and internal departments. You will provide leadership to your team, ensuring that they are delivering the professional, first point of contact our callers expect, through to the timely despatch of MPS resources. You will be required to identify Harm, Risk and Threat, whilst managing priorities and displaying good management skills.
You will lead a team of Police Officers and Police Staff dealing with the initial contact from the Public and the despatch of officers to incidents. You will be at the forefront of Command and Control for the MPS. You will need to be reviewing and updating incidents to ensure that victims are dealt with correctly and promptly. As a Police Staff supervisor in one of the Metropolitan Police’s Command and Control rooms you are making decisions that will save lives. These are live incidents that you have only just become aware of, but there may be others that equally require assistance from the Police. What further information is required to make a decision and assign the most appropriate unit to respond? Has the call been given the correct priority by the initial call taker? Which victim is most at risk? Having made a decision, can I justify that decision? You know that it’s a busy evening and there will be further calls requesting Police resources. You have limited information and limited time to make a decision. Reports of a person with a knife in the street.īoth incidents are awaiting resources to be assigned.A victim of Domestic assault reporting that they have just been assaulted.“What would you choose as your priority?”
